Most people see Shenyang’s qipao event as just cultural pageantry. It is actually a well-planned industrial play. The city has spent 10 years nurturing this IP from scratch. It is not just here to celebrate traditional heritage. It wants to turn cultural cachet into real commercial gains.
Official records confirm the event opened June 15, 2026 at Luxun Academy of Fine Arts. It brought together nearly 150 qipao enterprises and 130 designers. The theme marks a full decade of Shenyang’s qipao culture growth. It now spans seven integrated sectors, from conferences to photography. The opening also marked the official launch of Wu’ai Qipao Garden. The event runs through September, with over 100 cross-sector activities.
Wu’ai Clothing Market is one of Northeast Asia’s top apparel hubs. The new Qipao Garden leverages this existing industrial advantage. It combines branding, heritage exhibitions, bespoke tailoring and retail. It gives small and medium qipao businesses a shared space to grow. Businesses can share resources, build brands and lower operating costs. Shenyang also partnered with Beijing and Hong Kong on academic dialogues. Experts and designers explore new ways to frame qipao for modern audiences.
A large slice of the global premium traditional apparel market will shift to Shenyang within five years.
