Nvidia unveils new powerful AI chips, with Jensen Huang stating the company is reinventing the personal computer

(SeaPRwire) –   Nvidia on Monday introduced new powerful chips designed to integrate advanced artificial intelligence capabilities into laptops and desktop computers. New personal computer models from manufacturers such as Microsoft and Dell are expected to be available later this year.

While Nvidia, headquartered in Santa Clara, California, has already achieved significant success by supplying high-end chips for data centers amid the global surge in AI demand, the company is pursuing different strategies to broaden its reach across AI systems and products.

Jensen Huang, the Taiwanese-American founder and CEO of Nvidia, made this announcement in Taipei during the annual Nvidia GTC event. He stated in his keynote address that Microsoft and Nvidia “are going to reinvent the PC (personal computer).”

“This is going to be the new PC,” Huang declared as he unveiled Nvidia’s RTX Spark superchip. This chip combines central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU) functionalities and will power new Windows laptop and desktop computer models, which the company has termed “AI personal computers,” slated for release in the fall of this year.

Nvidia is currently the world’s most valuable company, surpassing Apple, Google’s parent Alphabet, and Microsoft. Its new superchips for PCs are poised to challenge competitors in the chipmaking industry, including Intel and AMD. Nvidia’s stock saw an increase of nearly 4% in early U.S. trading, while both Intel and AMD experienced declines of over 3%.

The company indicated it is “reinventing the personal computer” for both creative tasks and gaming. Huang elaborated, “When it has an autonomous (AI) agent, an agent that’s helping you, that understands you, you could talk to it. It could look at you. You could ask it to read files, go help you do some research. It could do a lot more.”

Microsoft issued a separate statement confirming that personal computers equipped with Nvidia’s RTX Spark superchips will be capable of supporting “highly capable AI models” and demanding workloads. Nvidia also stated that these new superchips will enable these personal computers to run AI agents locally.

“This is the first across the lineup of PC reinvention for 40 years,” Huang remarked.

Lian Jye Su, chief analyst at the technology research and advisory group Omdia, highlighted the significance of Nvidia’s move, particularly given the increasing demand for personal AI agents.

“For consumers, it means more choices, which is always a good thing,” Su commented.

Neil Shah, an analyst and co-founder of Counterpoint Research, characterized Nvidia’s announcement as a development that is “revolutionizing how PCs would look like in the next 10 years.”

Shah anticipates that the new laptops and desktop computers “will drive agentic AI applications in every home,” with the ultimate goal of having an “AI supercomputer” in every household.

During his address on Monday, Nvidia’s Huang also announced that its new Vera CPUs for data centers are now in full production and are expected to become “our new major growth driver” due to the boom in AI agents. Early clients for these CPUs include Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceXAI.

Huang also unveiled a humanoid robot reference design, intended to serve as a blueprint for future research, particularly within higher education. Nvidia’s “Isaac GR00T” stands nearly six feet tall and features the humanoid chassis of Unitree’s H2, a Chinese robot manufacturer. It is equipped with five-fingered dexterous hands, developed by Singapore-based robotics startup Sharpa, capable of highly precise movements.
