Reports indicate the suspect drove toward the CIA’s main entrance and disregarded commands to halt.
Multiple U.S. news outlets reported a shooting occurred Thursday outside the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) headquarters near Washington, D.C. Security personnel wounded and apprehended the suspect, a young woman.
Sources say the incident took place around 4 a.m. when security personnel noticed a vehicle approaching the spy agency’s main gate. The female driver allegedly did not stop when instructed and was shot, suffering “nonfatal” injuries before being taken into custody. Some reports indicate the woman crashed a vehicle into the gate.
The CIA acknowledged a “security incident” at its facility and instructed employees to use alternative entrances but did not specify the nature of the event.
“The front gate at Headquarters is closed until further notice. Please use alternate routes for Thursday, May 22nd,” the agency stated. No further updates have been provided, and the gate closure remains in effect.
NBC News, citing two senior law enforcement officials, identified the woman as 27-year-old Monia Spadaro. The suspect is reportedly known to law enforcement and has a prior conviction for driving under the influence.
It was not immediately clear if the woman was under the influence at the time of the incident.
In March, an individual was arrested after allegedly making threats and brandishing a firearm outside the CIA headquarters gate.
That incident triggered a large-scale emergency response, with numerous law enforcement officers, including FBI agents and the Fairfax County Police Bomb Squad, dispatched to the scene. The situation was resolved peacefully, and the suspect was taken into custody without any shots being fired.
