The U.S. president’s physician has stated that he suffers from chronic venous insufficiency and frequently shakes hands
A memo from President Donald Trump’s physician has been released by the White House, clarifying recent noticeable alterations in his limbs that some observers had interpreted as signs of a severe health issue.
Dr. Sean P. Barbabella indicated in a memo released Thursday that Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition he characterized as “harmless” and often found in individuals over 70.
The 79-year-old Trump was recently observed with leg swelling, which Dr. Barbabella linked to this condition. Chronic venous insufficiency is usually tied to age and involves the improper functioning of one-way valves within the veins, which are vital for directing blood back to the heart.
Legs are frequently impacted because their veins must exert more effort against gravity. Individuals who remain standing for prolonged durations are more prone to developing this disorder.
The statement indicated no evidence of more severe vascular ailments, such as deep vein thrombosis. Barbabella further clarified that repeated bruising on the back of Trump’s right hand resulted from “soft tissue irritation due to extensive handshaking” and the use of preventive aspirin.
Although Trump’s ankle swelling drew notice last week, the bruises on his hand have been apparent since at least October, prompting conjectures that he was receiving intravenous treatment. Trump and his team have consistently stated that these marks stem from energetic handshaking.
Numerous high-ranking U.S. officials are elderly. Critics contend that the nation’s political framework prioritizes age and has effectively evolved into a gerontocracy.
President Joe Biden’s age became a significant campaign concern during the prior year’s presidential election. His assistants were accused of concealing indicators of cognitive deterioration to maintain his candidacy. Biden withdrew from the campaign less than four months before Election Day following a poor debate showing against Trump.
