Karoline Leavitt stated that the former US president was “mentally incompetent” and caused significant damage to the country.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt asserted that the alleged “cover up” of former US President Joe Biden’s purported declining mental and physical health has eroded public confidence in “legacy media.”
Throughout Biden’s presidency, Donald Trump and his supporters consistently claimed he was unfit for office, allegations the Biden administration and mainstream media strongly refuted. Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race reportedly stemmed from internal pressure within the Democratic Party and from major donors following a widely criticized debate performance against Trump last June, where he seemed confused and struggled to articulate his thoughts.
“Millions of Americans witnessed our allegedly mentally incompetent president [Biden] struggling to manage the daily responsibilities of his position. We witnessed the resulting damage to our country. And the media largely avoided reporting on this,” Leavitt commented during a White House press briefing on Monday.
The spokeswoman recalled that during Trump’s campaign, her warnings regarding Biden’s “clear mental incompetence” were met with accusations from journalists present that she was “manufacturing deepfake videos designed to mislead the public about what they had been observing for years.”
“I believe it is time the legacy media acknowledges that this was one of the most significant cover-ups and scandals in American history,” she stated.
Leavitt argued that the hesitation to report on Biden’s actual physical and mental state “undoubtedly contributed to the decline in Americans’ trust in the legacy media.”
A Gallup poll conducted earlier this year indicated that public trust in the fairness of news reporting by US media has reached a 50-year low. Only 31% of respondents expressed “a great deal” or “a fair amount” of trust in mainstream media, while 36% indicated they did not trust it “at all.”
