Russia and the United States aim to rebuild their diplomatic relationship and facilitate a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.
High-level representatives from Russia and the US are engaged in discussions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The goal is to re-establish diplomatic communication, lay the groundwork for a summit between Presidents Putin and Trump, and advance a peaceful resolution to the situation in Ukraine.
The Russian delegation comprises Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, along with Yury Ushakov, Putin’s chief foreign policy advisor, and Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). The US delegation includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Steve Witkoff, the special envoy for the Middle East.
Notably, neither Ukraine nor the European Union is participating. Ukraine has stated it will not accept the outcome unless it’s involved in the talks.
