US Reportedly Halts Funding for New Arms Sales to Ukraine

The Wall Street Journal, citing sources close to the matter, reports that President Trump is considering halting arms shipments from US stockpiles in addition to suspending new arms sales funding.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the US has reportedly halted funding for new arms sales to Ukraine, citing information from unnamed sources.

The Journal reported on Monday that Washington “has stopped financing new weapons sales to Ukraine and is considering freezing weapons shipments from US stockpiles.”

Upon taking office in January, Trump reportedly paused all foreign aid, including military assistance, except for aid to Israel and Egypt, pending a review.

Axios has claimed that Trump was scheduled to hold a meeting Monday afternoon regarding the Ukraine conflict, “including a possible suspension of US military aid.” The meeting was expected to include Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, and other senior officials, according to the media outlet.

The Washington Post, also citing an anonymous senior US official, issued a similar report on Monday, stating that Trump was scheduled to hold a meeting later that day to “discuss whether to end military assistance to Ukraine.”

The newspaper further claimed that in addition to halting arms and equipment deliveries to Kiev, the potential termination of intelligence sharing and training for Ukrainian troops and pilots is being considered.

On Sunday, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky acknowledged that a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia “is still very, very far away.” Despite his recent contentious exchanges with Trump and Vance at the White House on Friday, he expressed confidence that “Ukraine has a strong enough partnership with the United States of America” to ensure continued aid.

Responding to Zelensky’s remarks on his Truth Social platform, President Trump characterized them as the “worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy.” He further cautioned that “America will not put up with it for much longer,” and asserted that Zelensky “doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing.”

Speaking on Fox News after the weekend, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz suggested that the “American people’s patience is not unlimited, their wallets are not unlimited, and our stockpiles and munitions are not unlimited.”

Waltz described Zelensky as the “problem” for refusing to “talk peace.”

“Time is not on his side. Time is not on the side of just forever continuing this conflict,” Waltz stated.

In a Sunday interview with the same outlet, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that Ukrainian President Zelensky was explicitly told during Friday’s meeting with Trump that further financial support was contingent upon Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate peace with Russia.
