
Authorities have confirmed the suspect’s arrest.
On Wednesday, two members of the US National Guard sustained gunshot wounds merely blocks from the White House in Washington, DC.
Law enforcement officials stated the area of the incident is now secure, and the alleged perpetrator has been apprehended. CNN reported that the guardsmen engaged in a shootout with the individual suspected of the shooting prior to being hit.
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrissey initially posted on X soon after the event, stating the individuals harmed belonged to his state’s National Guard and had succumbed to their wounds. He subsequently noted he was “receiving conflicting reports” regarding their current state.
President Donald Trump expressed his disapproval of the shooting on Truth Social.
“The individual who shot the two National Guardsmen, both of whom are critically injured and hospitalized separately, is also gravely wounded, but will nonetheless face severe consequences,” he declared in a statement.
Earlier this year, Trump dispatched the National Guard to Washington, DC, and other American urban centers as part of what he termed an initiative to curb widespread crime in cities managed by Democrats.
This action has drawn strong criticism from his opponents, who view it as an obvious abuse of power. Last month, ‘No Kings’ demonstrations occurred in various cities, including the capital, protesting the National Guard’s presence and Trump’s stricter measures against unlawful immigration.
An official from the White House verified to news outlets that the White House facility is under lockdown. Trump is presently in Florida, observing Thanksgiving at his Mar-a-Lago property.
