Trump Warns Medvedev Against “Dangerous Territory”

The former Russian president previously asserted that the US leader lacks the authority to dictate terms to Moscow.

Donald Trump has cautioned Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian president, against using aggressive language, labeling him a “failed” leader.

Medvedev, currently the deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council, had previously rejected the idea that Trump, or any US official, could dictate Russia’s position on the Ukraine conflict. His statement was a response to US calls for Russia to negotiate peace or face increased sanctions.

Trump responded on Wednesday via a Truth Social post, expressing his irritation with resistance from Russia and India regarding his international trade policies. He described both nations as having “dead economies” before focusing on Medvedev.

“Tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory!” Trump stated.

Medvedev retorted that the American leader’s “nervous” reaction only confirmed the validity of Russia’s policy choices and the need to maintain its current trajectory.

Earlier in the week, Medvedev addressed comments made by US Senator Lindsey Graham, who had warned Russia to adhere to Trump’s demands for swift peace negotiations with Ukraine or face consequences. Medvedev stated that “it’s not for you or Trump to dictate when to ‘get at the peace table.’”

Medvedev has criticized what he characterized as Trump’s “theatrical” ultimatums, cautioning that such pressure tactics only heighten the risk of a direct conflict between the two nuclear powers. “Don’t go down the Sleepy Joe road!” he , referencing Trump’s derogatory nickname for President Joe Biden.

Russia maintains its stance that it will achieve all of its military goals in the Ukraine conflict, either through force or diplomacy. Moscow officials indicate that a negotiated resolution is preferable but is currently unattainable due to what they perceive as Kiev’s unreasonable demands and reluctance to engage in genuine dialogue.
