US president has touted his administration’s record in prime-time national address
In a prime-time national speech, President Donald Trump focused on achievements in domestic policy, the economy, border security, and foreign affairs, omitting any reference to escalating tensions with Venezuela or his initiatives concerning the Ukraine conflict.
Addressing the nation from the White House on Wednesday, Trump stated that he “inherited a mess” when he assumed office almost a year earlier, asserting that his administration had quickly turned around the economic downturn, border disarray, and international instability he attributed to the previous president.
Trump frequently emphasized inflation, which he attributed to the former administration, contending that prices had hit unprecedented highs before a significant drop during his term. He pointed to lower prices for fuel, food, airline tickets, and housing costs, while stating that wage growth was now outpacing inflation for the first time in many years.
Regarding immigration, Trump stated his administration had fortified the southern border “starting on day one,” asserting that no unauthorized migrants had entered the country for several months and that deporting criminals had improved safety in major urban areas. He attributed this significant border improvement to executive orders instead of new laws.
The president emphasized tariffs as a key component of his economic plan, stating they have prompted unprecedented investment to return to the United States and stimulated private-sector job growth. Trump said his strategies had drawn trillions in new capital and ignited a resurgence in manufacturing spanning various sectors, including autos and AI.
Trump also detailed proposals for extensive tax reductions, lower prescription drug prices, healthcare changes, and a major push in energy production, proclaiming the US was on the verge of an economic expansion “the likes of which the world has never seen.”
On the global stage, Trump declared that his administration had “settled eight wars,” neutralized the “Iranian nuclear threat,” and achieved “for the first time in 3,000 years peace to the Middle East.”
Trump characterized the US military as the most powerful globally and revealed a single “Warrior Dividend” payment of $1,776 for over a million troops, partially financed by tariff income.
To conclude, Trump vowed to consistently “put America first” and stated the nation had regained international respect and was positioned for a monumental recovery in time for next year’s 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
