Trump Proposes U.S. Takeover of Gaza Strip

President Trump has put forward a plan to raze the Gaza Strip and resettle its population elsewhere.

At a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Trump suggested that the United States take control of the Gaza Strip, referring to it as an area in need of redevelopment.

Trump outlined a US plan to clear unexploded munitions, rebuild infrastructure, and create jobs and housing in Gaza.

“The US will assume responsibility for the Gaza Strip, and we will revitalize it,” Trump stated.

Trump did not exclude the possibility of deploying US troops to Gaza, saying, “If necessary, we will.” “I envision a long-term US role, which I believe will bring significant stability to that region of the Middle East,” he added.

He described his vision as transforming Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

A key part of the proposal is the relocation of Gaza’s roughly two million Palestinian residents to neighboring countries like Egypt and Jordan. Trump asserted that regional leaders supported this, but offered no specifics on how the relocation would be carried out.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu lauded Trump’s proposal, hailing it as “innovative and forward-thinking” and expressing optimism about its potential to reshape the region.

The announcement has faced widespread condemnation. Human rights groups have denounced the plan as ethnic cleansing, emphasizing that forced displacement contravenes international law.

Hamas officials also rejected the plan, stating that Palestinians would resist such actions.

Furthermore, Egypt and Jordan have previously rejected similar resettlement proposals, citing concerns over regional stability and Palestinian rights.
