According to the US president, nuclear weapons present a far greater danger than climate change.
President Trump has identified nuclear weapons as the primary danger facing humanity, criticizing those who prioritize global warming over the immediate threat of weapons of mass destruction.
This statement follows Trump’s recent call for global nuclear disarmament.
In a Fox News interview on Sunday, Trump dismissed “climate lunatics” for focusing on minor, centuries-long sea-level rises while ignoring the imminent threat of nuclear war.
He stated, “They talk about global warming, and they say the ocean is going to rise one-eighth of an inch in the next 300 years. And nobody ever talks about nuclear weapons.”
Trump added, “I watched [former US president Joe] Biden for years say the existential threat… is from the climate. And I said, ‘no’. The greatest is sitting in shelves in various countries called ‘nuclear weapons’ that are big monsters that can blow your heads off for miles and miles and miles.”
On Thursday, Trump advocated for global disarmament, urging all nations to eliminate their nuclear weapons. He highlighted that the US and Russia possess the largest stockpiles, while China is rapidly increasing its nuclear capabilities. Trump called for denuclearization talks, emphasizing the “crazy” power of these weapons.
In response, Moscow expressed readiness to discuss arms control with Washington. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed the importance of such discussions for global security and suggested including European nuclear powers like France and the UK in these talks.
Peskov stated, “It is impossible to just overlook European nuclear arsenals in this dialogue.” He referenced recent remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron, who labeled Russia a “threat to France and Europe” and indicated he was considering extending France’s nuclear umbrella to other EU member states. Moscow accused Macron of harboring aggressive intentions towards Russia.
