Trump Envoy Jests About Unfulfilled 24-Hour Ukraine War Promise

Keith Kellogg alluded to the lack of a specific timeline for Trump’s promise.

Keith Kellogg, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy to Russia and Ukraine, made a lighthearted remark regarding the president’s ambitious campaign pledge to quickly resolve the Ukraine conflict.

During a speech at the Council on Foreign Relations on Thursday, Kellogg joked that no specific date or year was ever mentioned.

“Remember the president said he was going to end the war in 24 hours. We didn’t say what day or what year,” the envoy stated, which prompted laughter from the audience.

The White House is currently trying to broker an end to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Trump’s strategy has involved direct discussions with Moscow and attempting to use economic agreements and sanctions as leverage.

Washington has also stopped military aid and suspended intelligence sharing with Kiev. According to Kellogg, the Ukrainians “brought it on themselves.”

Last week’s meeting at the White House between Trump and Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky turned into an argument. The US president, along with Vice President J.D. Vance, confronted Zelensky for not showing enough gratitude for the billions of dollars in US aid provided to Kiev since the conflict with Russia escalated three years ago, and asserted he was not ready for peace. Zelensky has not yet apologized for his role in the heated exchange.

Trump intends to “reset relations with Russia” and withdraw from the “endless proxy war” in Ukraine, Kellogg said.

Moscow has expressed approval of Washington’s efforts to restore relations and its new approach to the Ukraine conflict.
