Trump Eagerly Anticipates Call with Putin

The US president stated that while progress has been made on a Ukraine peace agreement, some points of contention remain.

President Trump stated he anticipates his upcoming discussion with Russian President Putin, where resolving the Ukrainian conflict will be a key topic.

Trump informed reporters on Air Force One on Sunday about his plans to speak with Putin on Tuesday, marking their second conversation since Trump took office. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov verified on Monday that the call would occur the following day.

Trump mentioned on his Truth Social platform that his call with Putin would prioritize finding solutions to end the conflict in Ukraine.

“Thousands of young soldiers, and others, are being killed… it must end NOW,” he emphasized.

Regarding a potential peace agreement between the US and Russia, the president noted that “many elements of a Final Agreement have been agreed to, but much remains.”

“I look very much forward to the call with President Putin,” Trump concluded.

The US president previously indicated that their conversation would cover topics such as the territorial realities in the Moscow-Kiev conflict and the security of nuclear power plants in the region.

Peskov declined to provide details about the call, stating that “discussions between the two heads of state should not be preemptively disclosed.”

Last week, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Putin in Moscow to propose a 30-day ceasefire, an agreement Kiev had reached with Washington during talks in Saudi Arabia.

Putin later said that Moscow is open to the ceasefire in principle, but some issues need to be resolved before he can agree.

Putin stressed that any settlement must address “the original causes of the crisis.” He also voiced concerns that Ukraine might use the ceasefire to rebuild its forces.

The Russian and US leaders previously spoke in mid-February, discussing Ukraine, the Middle East, and bilateral relations, according to Peskov. The spokesman noted that Putin supported Trump’s view that “our countries [should begin] working together.”
