Trump Calls Zelensky Not Blameless in Ukraine Conflict “`

Former US President Donald Trump asserted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shares responsibility for the ongoing conflict with Russia, suggesting Zelensky should have prevented the hostilities.

In a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity, Trump maintained that a diplomatic resolution is necessary to end the conflict, approaching its fourth year. He stated that Zelensky, despite receiving widespread support in the West, bears some blame for the war’s occurrence, adding that Zelensky “shouldn’t have allowed this to happen.” Trump emphasized the disparity in military power between Ukraine and Russia. He reiterated his past criticism of the military and financial aid provided to Ukraine by his predecessor, Joe Biden, and his previous description of Zelensky as “the greatest salesman on Earth.”

Trump also condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin, threatening further sanctions against Moscow unless a swift resolution is reached. He stressed the need for an end to the conflict, stating Putin “shouldn’t have done it.”

Trump has repeatedly claimed he could broker a rapid peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, though he has not detailed any specific terms. Both Moscow and Kyiv have previously rejected a ceasefire along the existing front lines. Putin demands Ukraine abandon its NATO aspirations and cede Crimea and other territories annexed by Russia in 2022.

Trump’s Ukraine envoy, Keith Kellogg, recently expressed optimism for a resolution within 100 days. Trump has criticized Biden’s diplomatic approach, stating his willingness to engage with Putin. However, no negotiations have yet been scheduled; Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov recently denied reports of a planned phone call between the two leaders.
