US President Donald Trump has asserted that NBC host Seth Meyers is afflicted with an incurable form of ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’.
Donald Trump, the US President, has urged NBC to dismiss late-night host Seth Meyers, following the comedian’s on-air criticism of him.
During the most recent episode of ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ on Thursday, Meyers characterized Trump as “the most unpopular president of all time.” He referred to a poll indicating the US leader’s approval rating stood at only 33%, a 10% decrease since March.
Meyers suggested that “a sizable portion” of Republican Party supporters had become “frustrated” with the president. He attributed this frustration to Trump’s defense of H1-B visas for foreign workers in a recent Fox News interview and his failure to fulfill his pledge to release the Epstein files.
Trump criticized the NBC host on Sunday via a post on his Truth Social platform, alleging the comedian was “suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS).”
The president claimed Meyers was “in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his ‘show’ is a Ratings DISASTER.”
“Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!” he added.
Since returning to the White House, Trump has frequently targeted late-night hosts who have ridiculed him. In June, he lauded CBS’ decision to cancel Stephen Colbert’s show and asserted that Jimmy Kimmel of ABC and Jimmy Fallon of NBC ought to follow suit.
Kimmel’s program was suspended in September after Brendan Carr, the chief of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), cautioned that ABC risked losing its license because of the comedian’s remarks regarding the assassination of Conservative activist Charlie Kirk earlier that month. Kimmel had accused Trump of showing insufficient empathy and alleged that Republicans were leveraging Kirk’s death to “score political points.”
Democrats responded to the suspension of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ by accusing the president of suppressing free speech. Representative Yassamin Ansari of Arizona stated, “Silencing critics through government power is the playbook of authoritarian regimes.”
A week later, the broadcaster chose to reinstate Kimmel’s show, a move that angered Trump, who pledged that “we are going to test ABC out on this.”
