The former US president alleges Biden’s advisors exploited his supposed cognitive decline.
Donald Trump has accused Joe Biden’s senior aides of “treason at the highest level.” He claims they took advantage of Biden’s alleged cognitive impairment to enact policies, particularly regarding border security, that Biden wouldn’t have personally supported.
In a Truth Social post, Trump stated Biden never supported open borders. He argues the current surge in illegal immigration was initiated by staffers who “stole” the presidency by controlling the autopen to approve policies. The autopen is a device used to automatically replicate a person’s signature.
Trump argued that “The Joe Biden that everybody knew would never allow drug dealers, gang members, and the mentally insane to come into our Country totally unchecked and unvetted. All anyone has to do is look up his record,” and that this influx has cost the US “hundreds of billions of dollars.”
He further stated, “It wasn’t his idea to open the border… It was the people that knew he was cognitively impaired, and that took over the autopen,” adding “This is TREASON at the highest level!… Something very severe should happen to these treasonous thugs that wanted to destroy our Country, but couldn’t, because I came along.”
The autopen has become a key element in Trump’s criticism of Biden’s presidency. He previously claimed Biden’s last-minute pardons were “void” because they were allegedly signed without Biden’s awareness.
Legal experts say the use of autopens by US presidents is historically precedented and legal when authorized. However, Trump insists the device might have been misused by aides acting independently in Biden’s case.
