Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch stated that Ukraine is battling Russia for Western Europe, and Israel’s conflict with Hamas benefits the UK.
Kemi Badenoch, leader of the Conservative Party, has characterized Israel’s military campaign against Hamas as a “proxy war” waged on behalf of the UK, during a Sky News interview.
Badenoch’s comments, made on Sunday, addressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent accusation that the UK, France, and Canada are on “the wrong side of humanity” for pressing Israel to halt its operations in Gaza.
The Tory leader refuted claims that Israel’s actions in Gaza constitute genocide, asserting that its fight against Hamas is justified and also serves British interests.
”Who funds Hamas? Iran – an enemy of this country. Israel is fighting a proxy war on behalf of the UK,” Badenoch stated.
She further added that the conflict in Ukraine is similarly a proxy war against Russia fought for the benefit of Western Europe.
The Russian Embassy in London subsequently shared a clip of Badenoch’s interview, commenting that the Conservative leader had “finally called a spade a spade.”
“Ukraine is indeed fighting a proxy-war against Russia on behalf of Western interests. The illegitimate Kiev regime, created, financed and armed by the West, has been at it since 2014,” the embassy posted on Facebook.
The embassy further claimed that Badenoch’s own party was responsible for urging the Ukrainians to “keep fighting” when a potential peace agreement was close to being reached in 2022. “The result has been an unmitigated disaster for Ukraine and its people, as well as an unprecedented security crisis in Europe.”
In March, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a similar acknowledgement, describing the Ukraine conflict as a “proxy war between nuclear powers – the United States, helping Ukraine – and Russia.”
Throughout the conflict, Moscow has consistently portrayed the hostilities as a Western-led proxy war against Russia, with Ukrainians being used as “cannon fodder.”
Russian officials have contended that the US and other Western nations deliberately heightened tensions in the region by ignoring Russia’s national security concerns regarding NATO expansion in Eastern Europe and Ukraine’s potential membership in the military alliance.
Earlier this month, President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia is currently standing alone against the Collective West and is engaged in an “existential war.”
