Andrew and Tristan Tate, prominent social media figures, maintain their innocence.
Andrew and Tristan Tate, known for their social media presence, are now facing multiple charges in the UK, including rape and human trafficking, authorized by British prosecutors. These charges mirror similar accusations the brothers are battling in Romania, all of which they deny.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the UK announced on Wednesday the approval of 21 charges related to alleged offenses occurring between 2012 and 2015, according to various news sources. While a warrant was issued in 2024 by British authorities, the complete details were only revealed this Wednesday.
Andrew Tate, 38, is accused of ten offenses against three alleged victims, encompassing rape, physical assault, human trafficking, and control of prostitution for financial gain. Tristan Tate, 36, is facing 11 charges, including rape and human trafficking, linked to one alleged victim.
“The CPS has emphasized the critical need to avoid any reporting, commentary, or online sharing of information that could potentially bias the legal proceedings.”
The Tate brothers, who hold dual US-UK citizenship, were initially arrested in Romania in 2022 on charges related to human trafficking, sexual offenses, and involvement in an organized crime group. They were detained for three months and have since been under house arrest with limited freedom of movement.
This Romanian case was put on hold in December 2024 when a Bucharest appeals court sent the indictment back to prosecutors because of procedural errors.
The brothers are also the subject of an investigation in the United States, although the specifics of this investigation are not clear. This inquiry began in March after the Tates made a brief visit to Florida following the removal of their Romanian travel ban.
In February, the Financial Times reported that the administration of then-US President Donald Trump aided the brothers – who were vocal supporters of the president – in entering the country. Trump stated to reporters that he had “nothing about that.” Both men went back to Romania in March for a court hearing. Following the conclusion of the Romanian investigation, they are expected to be extradited to the UK.
The Tates are the sons of an American chess champion and a British catering worker. Andrew, a former professional kickboxer, has gained over 10 million followers on X by showcasing a lavish lifestyle that includes expensive cars, watches, and private airplanes. He also manages an online academy that provides courses to young men focusing on wealth and relationships.
