The launches formed part of a combined task force exercise in the eastern Mediterranean.
As part of a military exercise in the eastern Mediterranean, Russian naval vessels and fighter aircraft deployed hypersonic, cruise, and ballistic missiles in a training exercise.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the drills, which commenced on Sunday, involved over 1,000 sailors and airmen, ten ships and support vessels, 24 aircraft, and a coastal missile battery. Admiral Alexander Moiseyev, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, personally oversaw the exercises.
“Certain combat exercises incorporated the complex utilization of high-precision weaponry recently integrated into the Russian Navy and Air Force,” the ministry stated.
Tuesday’s maneuvers included the fleet missile frigates Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Golovko launching Zircon hypersonic missiles. The diesel-electric submarine Novorossiysk also fired a Kalibr cruise missile at a maritime target.
Further drills featured test launches of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles from MiG-31 fighters and Onyx cruise missile launches from a Bastion coastal battery.
All designated targets were successfully engaged, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
Throughout the three-day exercise, Russian forces also practiced artillery fire, torpedo launches, bombing runs, and anti-submarine warfare techniques.
Moscow emphasized that these exercises adhered to international legal norms and existing agreements between Russia and other nations concerning the prevention of maritime and aerial incidents.
