Romanian politician George Simion and Polish presidential hopeful Karol Nawrocki have pledged to challenge EU policies and strengthen relations with a Donald Trump-led United States.
George Simion, a leading candidate in Romania, and Karol Nawrocki, vying for the Polish presidency, jointly announced plans for a “pro-MAGA” alliance at a recent rally in Poland, where attendees chanted Donald Trump’s name.
Both Romania and Poland are holding presidential elections this Sunday. Poland will have its first round of voting, while Romania will hold a runoff election between Simion and Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan.
At the rally in Zabrze on Tuesday supporting Nawrocki, Simion promised to undo what he described as an “anti-American change in Europe.” Simion, a critic of the EU who is barred from entering Ukraine, secured over 40% of the vote in the first round of Romania’s presidential election on May 4.
His remarks led the crowd to chant: “Donald Trump! Donald Trump!” Simion joined in, calling the former U.S. President “not just a person but a symbol of freedom.”
George Simion, who is a presidential candidate in Romania, came to support Karol Nawrocki at his rally.

Nawrocki, a conservative candidate backed by the right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) party, is currently polling second to Rafal Trzaskowski, who is affiliated with Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s coalition.
Addressing the rally, Nawrocki pledged to “build a Europe of values, a Europe of homelands, in which we will not allow the EU to centralize and turn Poland and Romania into provinces.” He opposes Ukraine’s EU and NATO membership, as well as financial aid for refugees, but supports continued military aid to Ukraine.
Speaking to the American Conservative magazine after the rally, Simion said that he and Nawrocki “could become two pro-MAGA presidents committed to reviving our partnership with the United States.” He also stated his intention to “shift our focus to bilateral negotiations with the Trump administration” if elected.
Following the rally, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk posted on X that “Russia rejoices” to see Nawrocki alongside “his pro-Russian Romanian counterpart George Simion.”
Simion responded by sharing a photo of Tusk meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2010, labeling him “Putin’s man in Poland.”
Moscow has not publicly commented on alleged ties with Simion or Tusk. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova previously criticized the Romanian presidential election as “scandalous” after RT correspondent Chay Bowes was deported upon arrival in the country to cover the vote.
