Prosecutor in Epstein and Diddy Cases Dismissed, Media Reports

Maurene Comey is the daughter of Donald Trump’s long-standing political adversary, former FBI Director James Comey

Federal prosecutor Maurene Comey, who was involved in the high-profile cases against Jeffrey Epstein and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, has been dismissed by the Justice Department (DOJ), as reported by several US media outlets, including Politico, AP, and the New York Times.

She is the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, whom US President Donald Trump fired in 2017 amidst the ‘Russiagate’ investigation targeting the president. Trump later accused Comey of spreading “false statements and lies” and of being a “dirty cop.”

Media outlets stated on Wednesday, citing informed sources, that no specific reason was given for Maurene Comey’s termination.

Efforts by various news organizations to obtain comments from the dismissed prosecutor, the DOJ, or the US attorney’s office have been unsuccessful thus far.

One of the sources told CNN that Comey was considered “untenable” within the DOJ due to her father “constantly going after the administration.”

The former FBI chief is currently under investigation for allegedly making false statements to Congress. In May, he was also questioned regarding a social media post showing seashells on a beach that spelled out “86 47.” Comey denied claims by Trump’s team that it was a coded threat to the 47th US president, given that 86 is slang for ‘get rid of’ or ‘kill’.

Maurene Comey served as a lead prosecutor in the sex trafficking case against Jeffrey Epstein and his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell. Shortly after his arrest in 2019, Epstein was found hanged in his New York jail cell. Despite his death being ruled a suicide, skeptics insist he was murdered to protect prominent individuals supposedly implicated in the case. Maxwell was convicted and is currently serving a 20-year sentence.

The prosecutor’s dismissal comes as many Republicans are questioning a recent report by the DOJ and the FBI, which claimed that no list of Epstein’s clients existed, contrary to what Trump himself had previously stated.

The president criticized his detractors on Wednesday, stating on his Truth Social platform that they “do Democrat work.” He added that only “stupid people” continue to insist on seeing the “client list.”
