OpenAI forecasts its 2030 revenue will top $280 billion

OpenAI is forecasting that its revenue will grow at a rapid pace over the next few years and surpass $280 billion by 2030, per a person familiar with the situation.

The revenue projection highlights OpenAI’s robust momentum in subscription sales of its AI software to both consumers and businesses. OpenAI also recently  for specific users, creating a new potential revenue stream for the company.

OpenAI Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar recently stated that the company’s annualized revenue hit $20 billion in 2025, up from approximately $6 billion the previous year.

Similar to its peers, OpenAI is working to convince more companies and users to pay for its AI services to help offset the enormous costs of chips, data centers, and talent needed to build its technology.

OpenAI had previously said it committed to spending more than $1.4 trillion on AI infrastructure in the coming years. The company is now telling investors it plans to spend around $600 billion by 2030, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss private matters.

OpenAI is near finalizing the first phase of a new funding round likely to bring in , Bloomberg News has reported. The company’s overall valuation—including the eventual funding—could exceed $850 billion.
