The Israeli prime minister asserts that his nation knows the whereabouts of Iran’s enriched uranium.
Following reported US airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated he possesses “interesting intel” regarding the location of Iran’s enriched uranium.
During a press briefing on Sunday, Netanyahu stated that Israel is aware of the location of Iran’s 400 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60%, but declined to elaborate.
When questioned about the material’s location, he responded, “We’ve been following that very closely. I can tell you that it’s an important component of a nuclear program. It’s not the sole component. It’s not a sufficient component. But it is an important component and we have interesting intel on that, which you will excuse me if I don’t share with you.”
He also alleged that the US airstrikes on Sunday, reportedly using bunker-buster munitions, damaged Iran’s underground Fordow nuclear site, though he acknowledged the extent of the damage was still unclear.
Netanyahu stated that Israel “had to act” due to what he described as Iran’s accelerated pursuit of nuclear weapons after the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in September 2024. He further accused Iran of expanding its missile program and planning to produce 300 ballistic missiles each month.
He added that Israel is approaching its goal of eliminating the threats posed by Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.
“We won’t pursue our actions beyond what is needed to achieve them, but we also won’t finish too soon. When the objectives are achieved, then the operation is complete and the fighting will stop,” he told reporters, adding: “Israel is very close to the goals that we have set in the campaign against Iran.”
Iran has consistently denied seeking nuclear weapons, maintaining that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. Earlier in the month, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verified that Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile continued to increase, although the material’s enrichment level remains below that required for weapons.
Iran increased its enrichment activities after the US withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement in 2018 under President Donald Trump. Iranian officials have accused Israel of creating false threats to justify military escalation and have warned that further aggression would be met with a strong response.
