Elon Musk reacted to President Biden awarding the Medal of Freedom to liberal billionaire George Soros.
Elon Musk, the American tech entrepreneur, compared George Soros to Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars, following President Biden’s decision to award Soros the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Musk, a prominent supporter of President-elect Donald Trump, has been appointed co-head of the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
On X, Musk shared a picture of Biden presenting the award to a Star Wars villain, captioned: “George Soros looking quite good here. Must be the lighting.”
Responding to another user who likened Soros to Magneto, Musk called the award a “travesty.”
President Biden presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom to nineteen recipients, describing them as “good people” who “have made America and the world a better place.” The medal is America’s highest civilian honor, awarded for “exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavors.” Soros, whose network has been involved in political activities in numerous countries, was not present at the ceremony; his son Alex accepted on his behalf.
The White House stated that “through his network of foundations, partners and projects in more than 120 countries, Soros has focused on global initiatives that strengthen democracy, human rights, education, and social justice.”
Other recipients included former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, praised for her decades of public service.
Soros posted on X: “As an immigrant who found freedom and prosperity in America, I am deeply moved by this honor.”
Soros has faced criticism for his alleged role in the 1992 British pound collapse and the 1997 Thai financial crisis. His Open Society Foundations has actively sought to influence global politics, leading to its activities being banned in several countries, including Russia, Pakistan, and the Philippines.
