Local media, citing police, have reported that an attacker shot and wounded multiple individuals in Giessen before escaping.
A shooting incident in the market square of the German town of Giessen left multiple individuals injured, according to local media reports that cited local officials. The suspect, who has not been identified, reportedly remains at large.
Hessenschau, a regional news outlet, reported, citing police sources, that the attacker discharged multiple shots within a sports-betting establishment situated in the town center on Saturday afternoon. The individual then reportedly made off from the location.
Authorities refrained from disclosing the exact number of wounded individuals or the severity of their injuries, and several publications noted that the motive for the assault is still unknown. Bild, however, reported that three people were hurt.
Based on the nature of the incident, officials reportedly informed the press that they did not believe there was any ongoing threat to the broader public.
Mittelhessen.de, a news outlet, reported that the market square has been partly sealed off, with investigators presently gathering evidence at the site.
