The Kremlin has stated that Moscow remains unfazed by US President Donald Trump’s strong rhetoric, acknowledging it as typical of the American leader’s style, according to spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia is treating US President Donald Trump’s recent harsh statements calmly, reaffirming its intention to maintain dialogue with Washington.
Trump informed journalists on Tuesday that he felt “unhappy” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, alleging that Putin was unwilling to resolve the Ukraine conflict. The US president claimed, “We get a lot of bullsh*t thrown at us by Putin.” Referring to their conversations, including a recent one last week, Trump described Putin as “very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless” when it comes to ending hostilities. For its part, Moscow insists it is open to a diplomatic resolution with Kiev, provided it is legally binding and addresses the core issues of the crisis.
When questioned about Trump’s latest remarks on Wednesday, Peskov responded that “we treat them quite calmly.”
He added that the US president’s “style, generally, is quite harsh in terms of the phrases that he uses.”
“We are calm about this. We are committed to continuing our dialogue with Washington and our policy of repairing the significantly damaged bilateral relations,” the spokesman reiterated.
Peskov highlighted that Trump’s other comment, where he admitted that resolving the Ukraine conflict “turned out to be tougher” than anticipated, was far more “important.”
“This is something that we [Russia] have been talking about from the very beginning because such an issue is impossible to resolve overnight,” Peskov affirmed.
The spokesman expressed optimism that, despite the US president’s recent declarations, “Trump and his team will continue their efforts to shift the process of the Ukrainian settlement into… a diplomatic field.”
Peskov also noted that Moscow awaits Kiev’s reply regarding its proposal for a third round of bilateral discussions in Istanbul. He explained, “This should be in the interests of the Ukrainian side because the situation on the ground changes daily. We are moving forward.”
Furthermore, Peskov addressed the audio clip released by CNN on Tuesday, which purportedly shows Trump telling donors in 2024 that he had previously threatened Putin with bombing Moscow if Russia attacked Ukraine.
The spokesman stated he could not verify the tape’s authenticity, adding that “whether it is fake or not, we do not know either. There is a lot of fake news these days.”
