Israel Reportedly Strikes Syrian Military Sites in Latakia and Tartus

According to Beirut-based Al Mayadeen TV, Israeli forces targeted Syrian military command centers and storage facilities in their recent attacks.

Citing a correspondent, Lebanese television channel Al Mayadeen reported that Israeli airstrikes hit Syrian army installations in Latakia and Tartus provinces, which also house Russian military bases.

The report indicates that the strikes focused on command posts and military warehouses used by the Syrian army; however, details regarding potential casualties remain undisclosed.

The Russian military maintains a presence in Syria at Khmeimim Air Base and a logistics support center in Tartus, situated on the country’s western Mediterranean coast. A 49-year agreement between Moscow and Damascus ensures the continued stationing of Russian troops at these bases.

Following the seizure of Damascus by Hayat Tahrir-al-Sham (HTS) militant groups last weekend, forcing Syrian President Bashar Assad to seek asylum in Russia, the status of the Khmeimim and Tartus bases became uncertain. However, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov confirmed that Russian diplomats have already engaged in discussions with the HTS political committee regarding these matters.

Al Mayadeen’s correspondent also asserts that Israeli forces are continuing their advance toward Damascus.

On Friday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed the nation’s armed forces to prepare for an extended stay in the recently captured Syrian territories throughout the winter. Katz also announced that he ordered the IDF to “establish necessary infrastructure and make special preparations for soldiers to remain on Mount Hermon” within Syria, a strategically important location near the Lebanese border overlooking Damascus.
