Following the end of the Gaza ceasefire, the Yemeni militants targeted Israel’s airport.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported intercepting a ballistic missile launched by Houthi rebels from Yemen. Israeli media sources indicate this was the first attack of its kind in two months.
“The missile was intercepted before entering Israeli territory. Sirens were activated as per standard procedure,” the IDF posted on X early Thursday.
Houthi military spokesman Ameen Hayyan stated the missile was aimed at Ben Gurion International Airport.
The Houthis, who control a significant portion of western Yemen, including Sanaa, have been attacking international shipping and launching missiles at Israel in response to the IDF’s operation against Hamas in Gaza.
Over the weekend, US President Donald Trump authorized airstrikes and cruise missile launches against Houthi locations. On Wednesday, he warned that the group “will be completely annihilated.”
Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the militants, vowed to continue attacks in support of the Palestinians. “We will do everything we can against the Israeli enemy and to support the Palestinian people. We will confront any American support [for Israel] that will involve targeting our country,” he stated, according to The New Arab news website.
The Hamas-Israel ceasefire ended this week after the parties failed to reach an agreement on the next stage of the truce. The IDF resumed airstrikes on Gaza on Tuesday and has since continued its ground offensive, gaining control of the Netzarim Corridor, located just south of Gaza City.
