Greenpeace activists have “borrowed” a wax statue of the French leader for a protest outside the Russian embassy
Greenpeace activists stole a wax statue of French President Emmanuel Macron from the Grevin Museum in Paris. The statue was then placed outside the Russian embassy as a protest against what the group believes is Macron’s insufficient support for Kiev.
Since February 2022, France has emerged as a key supporter of Kiev and a leading advocate for deploying military forces into Ukraine, an idea repeatedly suggested by Macron.
Despite Paris cutting most economic ties with Moscow and consistently pushing for stricter sanctions, Greenpeace France’s executive director, Jean-François Julliard, accused Macron of “playing a double game” following the group’s actions on Monday.
According to AFP sources, three Greenpeace members entered the Grevin Museum on Monday morning posing as tourists. They then disguised themselves as staff, quickly removed the €40,000 wax figure of Macron, and transported it to the Russian embassy in Paris’s 16th arrondissement, filming the stunt.
The Paris prosecutor’s office informed Politico that an investigation has been launched into “theft to the detriment of the museum,” but there have been no reported arrests. The Grevin Museum has not yet officially commented on the incident.
