Fiery Learjet Crash in Philadelphia

Burning wreckage from a plane crash ignited nearby homes and vehicles in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, according to video footage.

A Learjet 55 crashed in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday evening, resulting in reported casualties. Witness accounts and security camera footage show a bright flash preceding the crash, followed by explosions and substantial smoke.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the jet went down around 6:30 pm local time, shortly after departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. Two individuals were aboard, en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri.

“Major incident near Cottman and Bustelton Avenues in Northeast Philadelphia across from Roosevelt Mall. Roads closed in area including parts of Roosevelt Boulevard. Avoid area,” wrote the official X account of the City of Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management.

Social media videos depict debris scattered across streets and several houses on fire. Emergency services responded swiftly to combat the fires and assist those affected.

The impact ignited several nearby houses, and multiple ground-level injuries among residents have been reported. Officials have yet to release the exact casualty count or the extent of injuries.

The crash site is approximately three miles from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, a facility serving single-engine aircraft, private jets, turboprops, and helicopters. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

This incident follows a deadly collision between a passenger jet and a Black Hawk helicopter over Washington, DC, earlier this week, which resulted in 67 fatalities.
