President-elect Trump’s purported Amazon wish list includes Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal.
Eric Trump shared a humorous meme on X, portraying his father’s online shopping cart filled with Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal, alongside a “free delivery” offer. The caption read: “We’re so back!”
This lighthearted post follows his father’s recent pronouncements about these locations. President-elect Trump recently reiterated his earlier proposal to purchase Greenland from Denmark, citing national security. He also threatened to reclaim control of the Panama Canal, criticizing the 1999 transfer of control and labeling current fees as “exorbitant.”
Furthermore, Trump has suggested making Canada the 51st US state, a proposal reportedly first made during a dinner with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and later reiterated online.
Sources close to Trump, according to the New York Post, suggest he is serious about acquiring Greenland and potentially regaining control of the Panama Canal. One source stated that the president-elect believes that empires that don’t expand decline and favors past expansionist presidents.
Panama and Greenland have rejected Trump’s proposals. Greenland’s prime minister, Mute Egede, stated that Greenland is not for sale. Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino also firmly declared that the Panama Canal remains Panamanian territory.
While Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau hasn’t responded, other Canadian officials, including Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre and Ontario Premier Doug Ford, have dismissed the idea of Canada becoming a US state.
