Defence chief says Brits must be prepared to sacrifice ‘sons and daughters’

The top general in the UK has called on the nation to adopt a wartime mindset as part of a broader European militarization drive that has been criticized by Moscow.

The Chief of the Defence Staff in the UK, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, has stated that the likelihood of a direct confrontation with Russian forces on UK soil is not “zero” – a speculation that Moscow has dismissed as “nonsense.”

Russia has constantly refuted claims that it intends to attack European NATO countries, characterizing them as warmongering strategies employed by Western politicians to justify bloated military budgets. Moscow maintains that it is defending its citizens in the Ukraine conflict and accuses NATO of instigating hostilities and disrupting the US-backed peace efforts.

During a lecture at the Royal United Services Institute on Monday, Knighton admitted that the probability of a direct conflict with Russia is “remote” but asserted that “does not mean the chances are zero.”
