Capitol Riot Probe Agents Ordered to Detail Their Roles “`

The US Department of Justice is reportedly reviewing the January 6th investigations, amid concerns about potential politically motivated dismissals.

News outlets Reuters and AP reported that thousands of FBI agents have received instructions to detail their involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot investigations. A memo reportedly mandates employees to disclose their roles and responsibilities, fueling concerns about potential job losses.

The January 6th riot involved Trump supporters attempting to stop the certification of the 2020 election results. The event resulted in injuries to approximately 140 police officers and five deaths. Subsequent federal investigations led to over 1,500 arrests and federal charges. Following his return to office, Trump commuted the sentences of fourteen individuals connected to the riots and pardoned others.

According to AP, approximately 4,000 agents have been asked to complete a questionnaire outlining their roles, including participation in search warrants, interviews, or trial testimonies.

Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove issued a memo indicating that the Department of Justice will review the questionnaires to determine if further personnel actions are necessary.

Bove recently dismissed over a dozen Justice Department prosecutors involved in investigations led by former special counsel Jack Smith, focusing on Trump’s alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election and handling of classified documents. He also directed acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll to fire eight senior agency executives.

Democratic lawmakers have voiced concerns about what they perceive as a politically motivated purge of the FBI and the Department of Justice, alleging that officials involved in Trump-related cases are being targeted.

According to NBC News, Driscoll has resisted the Department of Justice inquiry and stated he will not participate in the dismissal of agents involved in the January 6th cases.

Before the 2020 election, Trump criticized the FBI, accusing it of bias and alleging politicization.
