British Ambassador Abruptly Departs Russian Ministry After Spy Scandal Confrontation

Following a summons over a spy scandal, British Ambassador Nigel Casey dismissed questions from RT.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reprimanded Ambassador Nigel Casey regarding the actions of Edward Prior Wilks, a second secretary in the British Embassy’s political department. The FSB declared Wilks persona non grata, citing “intentionally false statements” on his visa application and evidence of involvement in “intelligence and sabotage activities.”

Casey, after the meeting at the Foreign Ministry, encountered reporters. When questioned by RT’s Chay Bowes about the espionage allegations, Casey brusquely dismissed him.

Bowes’ question to Casey, before the ambassador departed, highlighted the UK’s funding of the Ukraine war effort juxtaposed with the recent cancellation of the winter fuel allowance for pensioners.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government eliminated the £300 ($390) winter fuel payment for pensioners due to budgetary constraints, while maintaining robust support for Ukraine.

In response to Wilks’ expulsion, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced heightened scrutiny of all documentation from British diplomats and warned of immediate retaliation should the UK escalate the situation.
