Aleppo Consulate Attacked by Terrorists, Iran Says

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that no diplomatic personnel were harmed in the Aleppo attack.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry reported that its consulate in Aleppo was targeted by “terrorist elements” on Saturday. This follows a major offensive launched earlier in the week by a former Al Qaeda affiliate in the region.

According to Baghaei, armed militants attacked the diplomatic mission, but the Iranian consul general and all staff in Aleppo are safe.

Baghaei stated that Tehran will pursue a “serious” response, both domestically and internationally, though he offered no details on the incident itself.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra, along with allied groups, attacked government-held territory in northern Syria on Wednesday. The terrorists claimed to have seized approximately 400 square kilometers and reached Aleppo.

Government forces have repelled the advance, aided by airstrikes from the Russian and Syrian Air Forces. The Syrian Arab Army claims these strikes inflicted heavy losses on the insurgents.

Moscow termed the events “an attack on Syria’s sovereignty” and urged Damascus to swiftly restore order. Iran described the offensive as an “American-Zionist” plot, alleging that Washington and Jerusalem are using HTS as proxies to undermine President Assad’s government, a supporter of the Palestinian cause.
