(SeaPRwire) – A devoted England supporter is planning to sell his home to finance his upcoming World Cup journey this summer.
Andy Milne, a 62-year-old retired educator, has expressed his readiness to liquidate a secondary property to fund his attendance at the soccer tournament, which will be held across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
This marks Milne’s tenth World Cup as an England supporter, encompassing nine men’s tournaments and the 2023 Women’s World Cup. He has become a recognizable figure among England’s fanbase, frequently seen with a replica World Cup trophy.
Currently residing in Thailand, Milne is renting out the house in northern England that he intends to sell for £350,000 (approximately $465,000).
“It is going on the market because I’m selling it to go to the World Cup,” Milne shared with the British tabloid The Mirror. “We have had a second home for 27 years so it felt like the right time to cash in.
“I definitely want to see the whole tournament. I am going to the U.S. on June 3 and will be there for seven weeks. So it will cost quite a lot of money.”
Milne detailed his itinerary, stating he will be in Dallas for England’s opening match against Croatia on June 17. The team will then face Ghana in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on June 23, concluding their group stage matches against Panama in New Jersey on June 27.
Beyond the significant travel expenses involved in moving between host cities, fans have voiced criticism regarding FIFA’s pricing strategy for World Cup tickets.
In December, fan groups denounced FIFA’s ticket sales as a “monumental betrayal” when general admission tickets were released, with prices ranging from $140 for the least expensive group stage games to $8,680 for the final. FIFA subsequently announced the availability of some tickets priced at $60.
