WeRide Introduces 24-Hour Fully Autonomous Robotaxi Service in Guangzhou’s Huangpu District

GUANGZHOU, China, Sept. 04, 2025 — WeRide (Nasdaq: WRD), a leading global autonomous driving technology company, has initiated 24-hour fully driverless commercial operations for its mass-produced Robotaxi GXR in Guangzhou’s Huangpu District.

This launch establishes the world’s first autonomous ride-hailing service providing point-to-point journeys across any location within a major city’s core urban area, underscoring WeRide’s prominent position and operational proficiency in the global Robotaxi sector. Customers can now summon a fully driverless Robotaxi GXR through the WeRide Go app from any point in Huangpu District.

WeRide’s Robotaxi GXR in Huangpu

Following the GXR’s launch in October 2024, WeRide accomplished road testing, obtained model certification and an operating license, and transitioned from human safety drivers to fully driverless commercial service within an impressive 11-month timeframe – exemplifying the distinctive ‘WeRide Speed’ in scaling Robotaxi commercialization.

Huangpu, recognized as a vibrant center for innovation and global investment, hosts prominent technology firms, research institutions, multinational investment ventures, alongside cultural and recreational sites. Given its residents’ varied and expanding mobility requirements, the district provides an optimal environment to showcase how completely autonomous transportation can enrich urban living.

The GXR represents WeRide’s mass-produced, purpose-designed Robotaxi, boasting industry-leading L4 autonomous driving capabilities. Utilizing the HPC 3.0 high-performance computing platform, which incorporates NVIDIA’s cutting-edge dual DRIVE AGX Thor, it can execute over 20 quadrillion calculations per second – positioning it as the ‘strongest brain’ for intricate urban navigation. Its Sensor Suite 5.6 guarantees clear perception in demanding conditions like rain, fog, and low light, simultaneously identifying pedestrians, vehicles, and construction zones with accuracy. Furnished with an extensive redundancy system encompassing its architecture, F-O steer-by-wire chassis, computing units, and braking systems, the GXR proficiently mitigates single-point failures and guarantees passenger safety across all urban settings.

The passenger experience is also a core focus of the GXR. Its expansive, open-concept design incorporates generous vehicle length, cabin height, and wheelbase, alongside the largest entryway in its category, and a dedicated luggage compartment. Enhanced second- and third-row seating are configured to maximize legroom, offering comfort and ease for as many as five occupants.

WeRide pioneered China’s first public Robotaxi monetization service in Guangzhou back in November 2019, initially covering approximately 145 square kilometers of public roads within Huangpu District. By May 2025, its Robotaxi network in Guangzhou had grown to encompass significant city landmarks – such as Guangzhou Tower, Canton Fair Exhibition Hall, Garden Hotel, and Zhujiang New Town – along with key transportation centers including Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Guangzhou South Railway Station. To date, WeRide’s Robotaxis have logged over 2,200 days of safe operation.

Moving forward, WeRide intends to further develop its fundamental autonomous driving technologies, refine the Robotaxi service experience, and expedite extensive, fully driverless commercial deployment by forging collaborations with additional cities and partners.

Prospective passengers can download the WeRide Go app to access operating zones and book a ride by designating any desired origin and destination within the designated service area.
