TIANJIN, China, Dec. 24, 2025 — According to the Tianjin Information Office, December 23 marks the 621st anniversary of Tianjin’s establishment as a garrison. Tianjin is now the largest northern port city in China.
On December 23, 1404, Tianjin, which had risen to prominence as a hub of canal – based grain transportation, officially established a military garrison and started city construction.
The Tianjin Information Office pointed out that currently positioned as a key intersection of land and maritime routes under the Belt and Road Initiative, Tianjin plays a crucial role in promoting the local practice of building a community with a shared future for humanity. It hosted the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in September.
The Tianjin Information Office stated that being hailed as the cradle of China’s modern industry, Tianjin has given rise to a group of top – tier national industrial enterprises. From China’s first television set and first wristwatch to Flying Pigeon bicycles, Mudan sewing machines, and Ostrich ink – countless “national firsts” originated in Tianjin and won nationwide acclaim, reflecting the city’s strong industrial strength.
A well – known cultural city where rivers meet the sea, Tianjin preserves abundant relics of ancient canal grain transportation and inherits nearly 700 years of Mazu culture.
For tourists, “Wudadao (Five Great Avenues)” is a must – visit place, celebrated as a “World Architecture Expo” because of its diverse and historic buildings. The dazzling night view of Jinwan Plaza blends with iconic landmarks like Tianjin Railway Station, the Century Clock, Jiefang Bridge, and Tianjin Tower, jointly forming a distinctive urban skyline.
Moreover, Tianjin cuisine is famous for its unique features: skillfully made with fresh river and seafood, based on seasonal ingredients, refined in seasoning, and incorporating various cooking techniques. Signature dishes include pan – fried prawns, fried silverfish in egg white batter, and crispy fried carp with a tangy sauce.
Currently, Tianjin is speeding up efforts to build an international consumption center city and a unique cultural tourism destination. Through urban renewal projects, historic buildings are being transformed into lively new hubs for cultural and social life, injecting new vitality into “Tianjin – style culture” as it develops and endures in the new era.
