HONG KONG, Feb. 16, 2026 — TERA-Award 2026 kicks off with a US$1.15 million prize fund, broadening its global reach through strategic partnerships with the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) to advance cutting-edge energy technologies for climate solutions.
Established in 2021 by Dr Peter Lee Ka-kit, TERA-Award has evolved into a prominent international platform that combines prize funding, real-world implementation, industry cooperation, and capital backing for pioneering climate innovations. It has drawn nearly 2,000 projects from 76 countries, with a total of US$4.65M awarded.
UNCTAD contributes UN policy knowledge and global networks to link TERA-Award innovations with international markets for swift deployment, while CISL bolsters assessment through world-leading climate and energy research to identify commercially feasible projects.
Alan Chan Ying-lung, Executive Chairman of the TERA-Award Organising Committee, stated: “By partnering with international organizations and governments worldwide, we aim to expedite the real-world rollout of TERA-Award projects and provide practical technological pathways for the global energy transition.”
To address emerging technological challenges, TERA-Award 2026 is adding two new categories alongside its four existing tracks: AI × Energy and Next-Generation Energy.
The AI × Energy category fosters the integration of artificial intelligence into energy systems to boost efficiency and resilience, while also tackling the growing energy demand and carbon footprint tied to rapid AI expansion. The Next-Generation Energy category extends beyond renewables to include advanced nuclear technologies such as nuclear fusion and small modular reactors (SMRs).
InvestHK, TERA-Award’s strategic partner, views Hong Kong’s ecosystem as a catalyst for accelerating energy tech deployment. King Leung Hong-king, Global Head of Financial Services, FinTech & Sustainability, noted: “TERA-Award exemplifies how our policy support, research excellence, and global connectivity propel climate innovations to market. InvestHK will connect innovators with Asia and beyond.”
The 2026 edition features a total prize pool of US$1.15 million. Applications are currently open, closing in late April. Roadshows will be staged across Europe and Asia in the coming months to engage innovators globally.

TERA-Award 2025 drew 785 projects and hosted a highly successful award ceremony at the University of Cambridge. Applications for TERA-Award 2026 are now open. Innovators are encouraged to submit their entries via the official website at .
