LU’AN, China, Dec. 12, 2025 — Recently, the first “Battle of the Feathers” Badminton Challenge wrapped up successfully in Lu’an, a city in western Anhui Province. This event functioned not only as a public sports activity but also as an innovative endeavor to boost industrial development via competitions and invigorate business through sports events. All shuttlecocks and prizes used in the challenge were sourced from local independent brands, clearly illustrating a novel “sports + industry” integration development path.
The “West Anhui White Goose” is a time-honored, unique resource of Lu’an. The Publicity Department of the CPC Lu’an Municipal Committee pointed out that the city’s goose population hit 18.843 million in 2024, with a total output value of around 17 billion CNY. Today, this traditional industry is transitioning toward modernization. In breeding, the adoption of IoT systems and eco-cycle models has notably raised the survival rate of goslings. For processing, enterprises have implemented advanced technologies like AI-driven intelligent sorting, improving production efficiency and product uniformity. At present, Lu’an-made badminton shuttlecocks make up 40% of China’s training shuttlecock market.
Via coordinated whole-chain development, Lu’an has built an integrated industrial system spanning breeding, processing, down and feather products, and food. The city now hosts more than 1,000 down and related product businesses, among which 75 are above-scale enterprises. In 2024, the output value of designated large-scale enterprises surpassed 10 billion CNY. Aiming to break away from the primary raw material supply model, the industry is concentrating on cultivating the “West Anhui Down” brand and pushing product upgrades toward high-end, functional offerings.
The Publicity Department of the CPC Lu’an Municipal Committee noted that per the development plan, by 2027, the city’s goose population is forecast to exceed 30 million, and the combined output value of the goose industry and down/feather industry is expected to top 30 billion CNY. From a single goose feather to a sports tournament, and from a traditional breeding sector to a modern industrial cluster, Lu’an is penning a new chapter of high-quality development via innovation-driven growth and brand leadership.
