NEW YORK, March 10, 2026 — Lithium batteries are notoriously sensitive to cold. When temperatures dip below freezing, most units cease charging to safeguard their internal cells—a persistent hurdle for those using RVs, off-grid solar setups, or equipment for outdoor exploration and ice fishing in winter.
LiTime, a pioneer in LiFePO4 energy storage, claims to have overcome this limitation.
The company has introduced LiHeat™, a patented dual-mode self-heating technology engineered to help lithium batteries reach optimal charging temperatures more quickly and function with greater reliability in freezing conditions.
From Passive Heating to Intelligent Thermal Management
Conventional self-heating lithium batteries typically rely on a single method known as plug-in heating, which utilizes an external charger to power the heating element until the battery reaches a safe temperature for charging.
LiHeat™ introduces a secondary capability: self-powered heating. In frigid conditions, the battery can utilize its own stored power to warm its cells prior to being connected to an external charger. Consequently, charging can commence immediately upon connection, eliminating the wait time previously required for the battery to warm up.
The system also features automatic mode switching. If self-heating alone is insufficient to bring the battery to the necessary temperature, LiHeat™ seamlessly transitions to plug-in heating, drawing on external power to continue warming the cells until safe charging parameters are met.
Together, these two modes evolve conventional heating from a passive process into a more flexible and intelligent thermal management system, specifically tailored for cold-weather lithium battery use.

Pre-Heating Before Charging Saves Time — and Solar Energy
Via the LiTime Bluetooth app, users can remotely trigger the self-heating function when ambient temperatures are above -20°C and the battery’s charge level is above 20%. This allows the battery to warm up beforehand, ensuring charging begins the moment a power source is attached.
This functionality is particularly advantageous for winter solar installations. On chilly mornings when solar panels begin to produce power, batteries equipped with LiHeat™ reach a chargeable state faster, helping to capture solar energy that might otherwise be lost due to temperature-related limitations.
Expanding Across LiTime’s Product Line
LiTime has begun incorporating LiHeat™ technology into several models within its self-heating battery range, including:
- 12V 100Ah Group24 Self-Heating Battery
- 12V 165Ah Self-Heating Battery
- 12V 320Ah Mini Self-Heating Battery
- 24V 230Ah Self-Heating Battery
These products are well-suited for cold-weather activities such as winter RV camping, off-grid solar systems, ice fishing, and outdoor expeditions in extreme climates, providing dependable power in low temperatures.
The company indicates that additional LiHeat™ batteries with varied voltage and capacity options are in development. All models feature Bluetooth-enabled BMS systems, allowing users to monitor temperatures, adjust heating modes, and manage battery settings via the LiTime app.

As energy storage systems are increasingly utilized in outdoor, high-latitude, and extreme-climate environments, the need for batteries capable of cold-weather operation continues to rise.
LiTime states that LiHeat™ marks a significant advancement in battery thermal management, engineered to provide reliable charging and stable performance even in sub-zero conditions.
