Cape Town, South Africa, Nov. 25, 2025 — Kailas FUGA athletes achieved significant success at the RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town (UTCT), with Sunmaya Budha securing a commanding victory in the Women’s 100k and her sister, Ran Maya Budha, claiming third place in the women’s 50k. This performance culminates a remarkable year where both sisters have made a strong impact on the trail running circuit. In South Africa, Sunmaya not only triumphed in the 100k with an extraordinary time of 12:25:55, finishing more than an hour ahead of the next competitor, but also emerged as the overall women’s champion of the 2025 World Trail Majors. This latest achievement further extends her impressive series of victories throughout 2025 in some of the globe’s most challenging races. Notably, in September, she represented Nepal at the Third World Mountain and Trail Running Championships Long Trail (2025) in Spain, where her second-place finish marked a historic milestone as the highest placement ever for an Asian athlete in that category.
Throughout this year, these two Kailas FUGA athletes, both hailing from Nepal, have garnered considerable acclaim for their exceptional athletic prowess. Their achievements include Ran Maya’s debut international race win in January 2025 at the Hong Kong 100 Women’s 50k, where she established a new course record of 5:34:05. Sunmaya also set a new course record at the same event, completing her race in 11:11:47. Her winning streak continued with victories at the Chengdu Trail 60 in March, the Ultra-Trail Mount Yun 30K in April, and the Annapurna Marathon 42K in June.
Reflecting on her UTCT victory, Sunmaya Budha expressed, “I am incredibly pleased with my performance here in South Africa. Following this race and the recent 2025 World Championships Long Trail, I feel significantly more assured about my upcoming plans. For 2026, I believe I am prepared to tackle UTMB and participate in my inaugural 100-mile race. I am immensely excited for this challenge.”
Ran Maya Budha further remarked, “This has been a truly valuable experience for me. I was genuinely happy to secure a podium finish at UTCT. Although I passionately aimed for a win and pushed myself intensely, I wasn’t able to maintain the speed I desired. I am committed to continuing my hard work and giving my utmost in races next year.”
