Hainan Winter Trade Fair Bridges International Markets, Opens Free Trade Port Agricultural Opportunities

HAIKOU, China, Dec. 12, 2025 — Haikou hosted the 28th China (Hainan) International Winter Trade Fair For Tropical Agricultural Products from December 4 to 7, gathering over 2,000 companies and more than 10,000 trade visitors, with nearly 200,000 attendees.

The exhibition offered an in-depth view of novel crop varieties, cutting-edge technologies, and contemporary machinery across aquaculture, livestock, fruit, and vegetable sectors.

A major highlight was a live tuna-cutting show with yellowfin tuna, which attracted throngs of purchasers and attendees keen to watch and taste. Presenting this premium product at the event underscores Hainan’s blend of intelligent breeding methods and integrated ‘company + base + farmer’ partnerships.

The South China Sea, which hosts plentiful yellowfin tuna stocks, acts as a crucial migration zone. Lingshui Li Autonomous County has emerged as a leading site for sustainable aquaculture trials. The South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, CAFS, has set up the country’s inaugural offshore demonstration site for yellowfin tuna cultivation there. Following years of study, advances in artificial reproduction and commercial rearing have been realized. Just the Lingshui County Agricultural Investment Group has raised more than 1,000 tuna.

The growth of this sector – spanning from breeding and farming to processing and cold-chain distribution – exemplifies Hainan’s drive toward agricultural modernization and brand development. Capitalizing on its tropical assets and free trade port regulations, Hainan is developing the regional public brand ‘Hainan Fresh Products.’ The goal is to boost sectors like winter gourds and vegetables, Wenchang chicken, and tilapia, delivering more premium tropical goods to global consumers.

This year’s exhibition highlighted Thailand and Pakistan as co-guests of honor, with participants from 16 nations and territories displaying specialty farm products.

“Feedback on our coffee and soapstone handicrafts has been outstanding. We’re looking to identify partners for end-to-end cooperation here,” stated Stephen Kise, a Ugandan exhibitor.

“China represents a primary target market for us. This trade fair serves as an excellent venue to grow our sales,” noted Huang Yundong, Sales Manager at Vietnam’s VINAPIA Food Joint Stock Company, whose durian, coffee, and bird’s nest items have already attracted numerous distribution requests.

The gathering attracted thousands of trade purchasers, encompassing major Chinese distributors, retailers, e-commerce leaders such as JD.com and Douyin, and international sourcing teams from Thailand, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Canada, and Singapore. Numerous buyers carried out site inspections at local production facilities. They intend to leverage Hainan Free Trade Port policy benefits – including zero tariffs, reduced tax rates, and a streamlined tax framework – to export Hainan specialties globally and import international products into China.

Per the Hainan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, this last major agricultural exhibition before the island-wide special customs implementation of the Hainan Free Trade Port has attracted considerable focus for establishing an effective ‘buy global, sell global’ marketplace. The event logged direct sales surpassing 595.98 million yuan, obtained orders valued at over 1.546 billion yuan, and executed 36 collaborative agreements with a combined worth exceeding 5.167 billion yuan.
