LIUZHOU, China, Sept. 24, 2025 — SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) showcased its Intelligent Island Manufacturing System, New Energy Technology Matrix, and the right-hand drive (RHD) version of its Starlight 730 at the 22nd ASEAN Expo, which concluded on September 21, 2025. SGMW’s participation was themed “Wuling Going Global with New Quality.”
A major highlight at the Expo was SGMW’s groundbreaking I²MS intelligent island-style manufacturing system demonstration model. This system, with its flexible “static + dynamic” island design, departs from traditional century-old assembly line approaches, leading to a 30% boost in manufacturing efficiency, a 31% cut in unit costs, and complete (100%) full-lifecycle product data traceability. Also featured was the Guangxi New Energy Vehicle Laboratory, which operates under the guidance of a research team comprising 8 academicians and collaborates with over 90 universities and businesses. It has developed an innovative “R&D in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou + integration in Guangxi + application in ASEAN” model, successfully launching 6 key technology brands, including the Magic Battery. Furthermore, SGMW presented the five-star safety rated body of its Wonder Flexible Modular System, constructed from 85% high-strength steel and aluminum alloys, and 22.5% hot-formed steel, complemented by the Magic Battery’s five “zero” safety attributes. The company demonstrated its dedication to safety through rigorous tests, such as remaining fireproof even when subjected to live gunfire, embodying its core principle: “Wuling build whatever the people need.”
SGMW, a leader in China’s MPV market with over 8 million cumulative MPV sales and more than 3 million global new energy vehicle sales, officially revealed plans for a new generation MPV designed for the public. This model, the Starlight 730 Right-Hand Drive (RHD) version, will launch in Indonesia as the Cortez Darion during the fourth quarter of 2025. Boasting dual powertrain choices, electric sliding doors, and a 2,910 mm wheelbase, this vehicle is designed for diverse scenarios, establishing a new standard for Chinese independent brands expanding internationally with cutting-edge technology.
The Bingo EV, known as Binguo EV in the Indonesian market, is SGMW’s flagship model within its ASEAN market expansion strategy. Since its initial release in China in 2023, it has attracted over 550,000 users and was later introduced to Indonesia and Thailand in 2024. The Bingo EV is slated for an official launch in Malaysia in December 2025. Through its collaboration with Tan Chong Moto Group (TQ), Wuling intends to provide consumers with more tailored, functional, and economical new electric vehicle choices.

Looking ahead, SGMW plans to continuously enhance its technological capabilities in the ASEAN market by utilizing its Wonder Flexible Modular System (a new energy vehicle architecture), Ling Power, and Magic Battery technology platforms. This effort aims to help establish the region’s new energy industry as a leading global demonstration center.
