China, Singapore Deepen Cooperation on Green Development Model City

TIANJIN, China, Sept. 22, 2025 — The China-Singapore Green Development Forum took place on September 18, 2025, within the China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City, situated in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin.

Under the theme of “China and Singapore build the cornerstone of green development, deepen cooperation on the construction of new cities,” the event convened more than 300 attendees from governmental bodies, industry associations, research organizations, and businesses to discuss strategies for green and low-carbon growth.

The China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City represents a significant intergovernmental collaborative initiative between China and Singapore. A new milestone for the area’s high-quality development over the next decade was reached on August 3, 2024, when the State Council endorsed the implementation plan to transform the China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City into a national green development demonstration zone for the period 2024–2035.

Wang Guoliang, director of the Eco-City’s administrative committee, stated that the region is dedicated to evolving into a more advanced iteration of a national green development demonstration zone.

By synchronizing the profound integration of a green and low-carbon economy with urban development, the region utilizes 6 primary pillars—such as green and low-carbon industrial growth and green and low-carbon energy shifts—and 247 specific implementation actions to propel the comprehensive advancement of its “five core dimensions”: industry, ecology, intelligence, openness, and vitality. During the first six months of this year, its regional GDP saw an 11.2% increase.

The forum facilitated several important collaborative achievements between China and Singapore. The international demonstration center (Singapore) of the national technology innovation center for green and low-carbon building was officially unveiled, alongside the simultaneous launch of the international alliance for green and low-carbon building technology cooperation and the China-Singapore alliance for culture, tourism, and education cooperation.
