BARCELONA, Spain, Nov. 20, 2025 – BYD unveiled its new ATTO 2 DM-i Super Hybrid in Barcelona, signifying a further advance in the company’s swift expansion across Europe and its plan to provide electrified transportation suited to the continent’s daily driving needs. The reveal included test-driving opportunities, allowing journalists to personally experience BYD’s Super Hybrid technology, engineered to deliver an electric-primary driving experience while alleviating concerns about range.
During operation, the ATTO 2 DM-i largely functions as a purely electric vehicle. Its EV mode offers up to 90 kilometers of emission-free travel in the premium variant, enabling daily commutes without fuel consumption. Should more range or power be required, the highly efficient 1.5-litre petrol engine engages smoothly, recharging the battery and supplementing the electric motor. This combination results in an extensive total range of up to 1,000 kilometers and remarkably low fuel usage, specifically designed for motorists seeking to embrace electric mobility without complete dependence on public charging infrastructure.
At the launch event, Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, underscored the company’s strategic outlook for Europe, stating: “The Super Hybrid DM technology represents an optimal pathway for individuals desiring the electric-car experience free from range anxiety. With the BYD ATTO 2 DM-i, we extend these benefits to the compact SUV category, introducing a distinctive model that embodies our philosophy when we say it’s not merely a car — it’s a BYD.”
The test-driving opportunities underscored the fluid shifts between electric and hybrid operating modes, the serene operation of the powertrain, and the system’s effortless adaptability to various driving scenarios. In contrast to numerous conventional plug-in hybrids, the DM-i system is configured to prioritize electric propulsion for the majority of the driving time, with the internal combustion engine primarily serving a supportive function.
In parallel with the new hybrid model, BYD also introduced the ATTO 2 Comfort, its fully electric counterpart featuring a Blade Battery and offering a range exceeding 400 kilometers, thereby solidifying the brand’s standing within the compact SUV category.
