Trump Announces Closure of Venezuelan Airspace

The US president stated that the US would soon take ground-based action against alleged drug trafficking operations in Venezuela.

President Donald Trump declared the airspace “above and surrounding” Venezuela closed on Saturday. He has frequently threatened military intervention, accusing Venezuela of involvement in illegal drug trafficking, allegations that Venezuelan authorities have consistently refuted.

Trump’s announcement, posted on Truth Social in all capital letters, did not specify how far the “surrounding” airspace extended beyond Venezuela’s borders.

“To all airlines, pilots, drug dealers, and human traffickers, be advised that the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela is now completely closed,” the US president posted.
