BAK Battery Presents Latest Developments in Solid-State Battery Technology at SAECCE 2025

CHONGQING, China, Oct. 24, 2025 — The 32nd China SAE Congress & Exhibition (SAECCE 2025) concluded in Chongqing, China, having run from October 21-24, 2025. Zhan Xiaoyun, BAK Battery’s Chief Solid-State Battery Technology Engineer, was among the attendees. During the conference, he presented updates on BAK’s solid-state battery technology and its practical implementations, highlighting innovations such as in-situ solidification and their utility in areas like digital security, eVTOLs, two-wheelers, and electric vehicles. This presentation underscored the company’s capability to advance solid-state technology from research and development to commercial production.

BAK Battery Unveils New Phase of Solid-State Battery Tech at SAECCE 2025

Solid-state batteries are poised to become fundamental to future green energy solutions.

The market for solid-state batteries is experiencing rapid expansion. According to *The 2025 Blue Book on High-Quality Development of Solid-State Batteries*, large-scale production is on the verge of becoming a reality. Global shipments are projected to reach 614.1 GWh by 2030, pushing the market beyond RMB 100 billion, with semi-solid cells contributing 85% of this volume. Offering a combination of high energy density and superior safety, solid-state batteries are set to drive the next significant advancement in new-energy industries.

Semi-solid-state batteries, containing 5-10% liquid electrolyte, prevent thermal runaway while maintaining high energy density. Their compatibility with existing manufacturing equipment reduces barriers to industrialization. This balance of safety, performance, and mass production makes them a practical intermediate step towards fully solid-state technology.

As lithium battery manufacturers intensify their efforts in solid-state technology, “solving real-world challenges through innovation” is crucial. BAK’s methodology involves a cycle of “scenario needs — technological progress — product enhancements,” utilizing practical feedback to refine technology and accelerate the development of all-solid-state solutions.

Comprehensive Design for Tailored Applications

From a technical standpoint, BAK’s in-situ solidification method reduces the liquid electrolyte content to below 10%. This enables the batteries to pass rigorous 6-hole penetration and shear tests, confirming their inherent safety, while still maintaining high ionic conductivity. The company’s pilot production lines are currently manufacturing 43Ah, 63Ah, 68Ah, and 70Ah cells, achieving up to 390Wh/kg, thereby fulfilling diverse requirements and converting technology into viable solutions.

BAK’s semi-solid-state batteries have consistently proven reliable in security applications for several years. Their 1.2Ah and 7Ah cells successfully undergo stringent penetration and short-circuit tests, guaranteeing stable power even under harsh conditions. For eVTOLs, 4C-8C discharge products facilitate rapid charging, contributing to the expansion of the low-altitude economy.

For two-wheelers, their “in-situ solidification + oxide” system delivers 1C charging/discharging and 3,000 cycles (retaining ≥70% capacity), significantly boosting both lifespan and range. In the electric vehicle sector, 300-400Wh/kg cells maintain ≥80% capacity after 1,000 cycles, making them ideal for achieving extended range and developing lighter vehicles.

BAK leverages semi-solid-state technology as a bridge between current applications and the ultimate goal of all-solid-state solutions. Its competitive advantage lies in merging technical feasibility with market relevance to address pressing demands. Through its continuous cycle of “scenario needs — technological progress — product enhancements,” BAK plans to further refine semi-solid-state technology, perfect the pathway to all-solid-state solutions, and provide customized offerings, thereby steadily advancing all-solid-state research and development.
