SHANGHAI, Sept. 22, 2025 — The 2025 Pujiang Innovation Forum, a platform for global science and technology collaboration, was held in Shanghai from September 20-22. The forum’s theme was “Sharing Innovation and Shaping the Future: Building an Open and Cooperative Global Sci-Tech Community.”
Since its inception in 2008, the Pujiang Innovation Forum has broadened its focus and become a leading indicator of science and technology innovation trends in China and worldwide.
This year’s forum drew 550 experts and scholars from over 300 institutions across 45 countries and regions. Approximately 40% of the international participants came from countries such as Belarus, the United States, Germany, Switzerland, and Denmark, as well as China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), Macao SAR, and the Taiwan region.
The forum included an opening ceremony, a main forum, 30 thematic forums, and five key events: the InnoMatch Expo, the WeStart 2025 Entrepreneurial Capital Conference, a young scientists’ symposium, a seminar for high-end international talent, and the closing ceremony of the China-Belarus Sci-Tech Innovation Year.
The forum invited representatives from various sectors to offer insights and recommendations in support of China’s strategy to become a leading science and technology nation. The Science & Technology Policy Forum, in particular, concentrated on integrating science and technology innovation with industrial innovation. Additionally, the Regional Innovation and Development Forum and the High-quality Development of National Innovation Demonstration Zones Forum aimed to promote practical discussions on high-level regional collaborative innovation, facilitating the cross-regional connection of innovation resources.
The forum, closely following global science and technology trends, also explored potential paths for future industries. Several thematic forums focused on areas such as computational biology, advanced materials, aerospace and marine technology, global health, and sustainable low-carbon development.
A key component of the forum, the InnoMatch Expo, released 10,000 technology demand listings globally, with companies pledging over 20 billion yuan in investments. It also announced 2,000 job openings and showcased over 80 innovative products and experimental scenarios being launched for the first time.
The WeStart Entrepreneurial Capital Conference attracted 1,487 teams from four emerging sectors—biomedicine, integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, and future industries—to compete in the WeStart TOP100 Competition. One hundred outstanding projects selected from this pool will be presented at the conference, along with investment and financing matchmaking opportunities with over 100 venture capital and financial institutions.
